Flag of Compassion
FLAG OF COMPASSION
Æ
Compassion means empathy, the ability to empathize with someone else's distress. Compassion also includes concern for the more vulnerable aspects of life, the vulnerable that is within each of us.
Compassion is related to the concepts of sympathy, consolation and solace. It is about life in all its different aspects. Death is an integral part of this. In death we all are equal, so we say, but in fact this is also the case in life. Only by being aware of this is it possible to feel compassion.
The Flag of Compassion is the materialization of an abstract idea: compassion, as it is explained above. It is a means to draw attention to compassion.
Compassion is most clearly felt in emergency situations, when someone is having a difficult time; for example, the loss of a loved one, or in situations of violence or war. One can have compassion for certain victims and feel the urge to express this and hoist the flag. However, we are also able to feel compassion for less grand events, under conditions of normal daily life.
